Montreal Canadiens Cards: A 2026 Team Hub
The Canadiens carry the deepest Original Six card lineage of any NHL team. The 12 tentpoles span 70+ years: Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Doirek Plante, Henri Richard, Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, Patrick Roy, P.K. Subban, Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky. Pre-1970 Topps and Parkhurst dominate; modern adds Upper Deck Young Guns RC.

The franchise frame
The Montreal Canadiens are the most decorated franchise in NHL history (24 Stanley Cups, the most of any North American major-pro-league team) and one of the Original Six. The card lineage runs continuously from the 1933 V304A O-Pee-Chee era through 2025 Upper Deck Series 1, with every Hall of Famer of the franchise's first 80 years carrying multiple tentpole cards. The franchise tax (the demand premium NHL collectors pay for Canadiens cards relative to comparable expansion-team players) is the highest in the league and structural.
This hub uses the franchise-affiliation rule: a card is a tentpole on the Canadiens only if the player's rookie or breakout card is dated to a Canadiens uniform. Cards of Canadiens players in pre-Montreal uniforms (rare for this franchise) are noted as continuity but not as tentpoles.

The 12 cards in detail
1. Maurice "Rocket" Richard, 1951-52 Parkhurst #4
Richard's most-tracked card. The 1951-52 Parkhurst set is the oldest commercially available NHL card set in collector circulation, and Richard sits at #4 in the checklist. By 1951-52, Richard was already an eight-time All-Star and a Stanley Cup champion. The card is the entry point to the Original Six era of hockey collecting. PSA 7 examples cleared 3,500-5,000 USD reliably through 2024-2026; PSA 8 reaches the high four figures.
2. Jean Beliveau, 1953-54 Parkhurst #27
Beliveau's first widely available card. The 1953-54 Parkhurst set introduced Beliveau to the cardboard market. Beliveau won 10 Stanley Cups across his career and is one of the two or three greatest centers in NHL history. PSA 7 examples cleared 2,500-4,000 USD through 2024-2026; PSA 8 reaches the mid five figures depending on centering.
3. Jacques Plante, 1953-54 Parkhurst #43
Plante's RC. The same 1953-54 set carried Plante's first card. Plante is the most-recognized goaltender of the Original Six era (the man who introduced the modern goalie mask to NHL play in 1959). PSA 7 examples cleared 1,800-3,000 USD through 2024-2026.
4. Henri Richard, 1955-56 Parkhurst #57
Henri Richard's RC. Younger brother of Maurice, Henri won 11 Stanley Cups (a record across all major North American team sports). The 1955-56 Parkhurst set is one of the most condition-sensitive Original Six issues; PSA 7 examples cleared 700-1,200 USD through 2024-2026.
5. Guy Lafleur, 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee #148
Lafleur's RC. The 1971-72 OPC set is a key vintage hockey set, with Lafleur as the centerpiece of a Hall of Fame draft class (also Marcel Dionne and Richard Martin). Lafleur won five Stanley Cups in the late 1970s and is the franchise's all-time scoring leader. PSA 8 examples cleared 800-1,400 USD through 2024-2026; PSA 9 reaches the low four figures.
6. Larry Robinson, 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee #237
Robinson's RC. Robinson is the defenseman anchor of the late-1970s dynasty, six-time Stanley Cup champion, two-time Norris Trophy winner. PSA 8 examples cleared 200-350 USD through 2024-2026; PSA 9 reaches the low four figures on clean copies.
7. Patrick Roy, 1986-87 O-Pee-Chee #53
Roy's RC. The most-tracked Canadiens card of the post-vintage era. Roy won the Conn Smythe Trophy as a rookie in 1986 (the year after the card was printed) and led the Canadiens to the 1986 and 1993 Stanley Cups. PSA 9 examples cleared 700-1,200 USD through 2024-2026; PSA 10 reaches the high four figures depending on centering. The 1986-87 OPC set is centering-sensitive across the board.
8. P.K. Subban, 2010-11 Upper Deck Young Guns #214
Subban's RC under the Upper Deck Young Guns rookie convention. Subban won the Norris Trophy in 2013 and is the most-recognized 2010s defenseman to come out of the Canadiens. PSA 10 examples cleared 250-450 USD through 2024-2026, with the post-trade-to-Nashville chapter not affecting the Canadiens RC pricing meaningfully.
9. Carey Price, 2007-08 Upper Deck Young Guns #239
Price's RC. Price won the Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy in 2015, the most decorated goaltending season for the Canadiens in the post-Roy era. The 2007-08 Young Guns RC is the canonical Price card. PSA 10 examples cleared 300-550 USD through 2024-2026.
10. Nick Suzuki, 2019-20 Upper Deck Young Guns #244
Suzuki's RC. Captain of the Canadiens since 2022, Suzuki has led the franchise through the post-2021 Stanley Cup Final rebuild. The 2019-20 Young Guns RC is the canonical Suzuki card. PSA 10 examples cleared 120-250 USD through 2024-2026.
11. Cole Caufield, 2021-22 Upper Deck Young Guns #246
Caufield's RC. Caufield is the franchise's primary goal-scoring forward of the 2020s, the offensive partner to Suzuki on the top line. The 2021-22 Young Guns RC is the canonical Caufield card. PSA 10 examples cleared 80-180 USD through 2024-2026.
12. Juraj Slafkovsky, 2022-23 Upper Deck Young Guns #483
Slafkovsky's RC. Slafkovsky was the #1 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. Year-three breakout in 2024-25 season pulled the Young Guns RC into the active-trade tier. PSA 10 examples cleared 60-130 USD through 2024-2026, with upside on a continued offensive ramp.
What these 12 tell you about Canadiens collecting
- The Original Six tax is real. Pre-1970 Canadiens cards trade at meaningful premiums to comparable cards from non-Original-Six franchises (Toronto and Detroit are the closest comparables; expansion-era teams like Anaheim or Tampa Bay do not carry the same vintage demand floor).
- Parkhurst is the Original Six anchor. Parkhurst (Canadian printer) was the dominant pre-1968 NHL card publisher in Canada, with Topps holding the US rights. Parkhurst cards on Canadiens players (and other Canadian-team players) carry the primary RC designation; Topps versions are usually parallel cards from the same year.
- OPC dominates 1968-1992. O-Pee-Chee was the Canadian print partner with Topps from 1968 onward and is the dominant NHL set through the early-1990s junk-wax bridge. OPC versions of Canadiens players carry the home-market premium even where Topps US issues exist.
- Upper Deck Young Guns is the post-2000 RC convention. Since 1990, Upper Deck has held the NHL license and the Young Guns subset (introduced in the 1990s) is the canonical RC frame for NHL players. Every Canadiens RC since the late 1990s lives in the Young Guns convention.
- Goaltender premium. The Canadiens' goaltending lineage (Plante, Roy, Price) carries an additional demand layer because of the position's outsized impact in NHL history and the franchise's specific goaltender tradition.
- The dynasty premium pulls 1970s Lafleur and Robinson. The four Stanley Cups in five years (1976-1979) creates a demand anchor on the 1970s Canadiens cards independent of player-specific demand.
Near-miss tentpoles
Three cards routinely come up in Canadiens collecting conversations but do not make this 12-tentpole list:
- Doug Harvey 1951-52 Parkhurst #93. Harvey's RC. Seven-time Norris Trophy winner. Strong case for inclusion; ranked just outside the top 12 because of supply considerations on PSA-graded copies.
- Ken Dryden 1971-72 OPC #45. Dryden's RC. Six Stanley Cups in eight seasons. Outside the 12 because the Lafleur RC from the same set carries the era anchor.
- Yvan Cournoyer 1965-66 Topps #66. Cournoyer's RC. Ten Stanley Cups. Outside the 12 because of total-supply considerations relative to Lafleur and Beliveau.
Three habits for Canadiens collectors
- Buy Parkhurst over Topps for the Original Six era. Parkhurst is the home-market card and carries the primary RC designation in 1951-1968 NHL collecting.
- Use SGC for vintage authentication. Pre-1970 Parkhurst and OPC sets benefit from the SGC vintage track record. PSA is acceptable; SGC has the additional credential on Original Six era cards specifically.
- Track Young Guns RC volume on current roster. Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky have active 90-day comps; the volume signal is the leading indicator for 2026-2027 pricing on the current core.
